Move lock

Postby wuul on Wed Nov 14, 2007 4:37 am

Hmmm. I wouldn't use the clipboard setting for now - there's a memory leak that I still haven't got around to fixing, eventually it will hog all the memory in your machine if you leave it long enough (using the disk option doesn't have this bug).

What kind of webcam are you using? I'll see if I can reproduce it here.

Hi,

I ran it inside the Delphi IDE and got a "Stack Overflow", so there's definitely a nasty bug somewhere. I really need to rewrite the scanning code so it uses threads instead of Windows Timers which may fix some problems.

Move Capture seems to have the same problem - this is quite irritating as I'm sure earlier versions didn't do this. Trouble is, I don't have a CVS repository or anything like that where I back up every version so I'll have to think about what changes I made recently.

I'm going to rip the code to bits and redo a lot of it as there's a whole bunch of stuff that could be done better.

New version

Postby wuul on Tue Nov 27, 2007 2:50 pm

I've started on a new version and it's looking promising, the code is a lot cleaner and it seems stable (ran it for 30 minutes today without problems, and the memory usage was pretty stable also). It will probably be around a week before I'm reading to release this - anyone who wants to be notified of this please drop an email to wuul39@googlemail.com

I'm also combining the functionality of Move Lock & Move Capture into a single program to save the hassle of maintaining two very similar apps - I'll also add an option to run your own script/program when movement is detected.

New version now available

Postby wuul on Wed Nov 28, 2007 7:33 pm

I finished the new version today, it's pretty stable (I've been running it practically all afternoon) and includes the functionality of Move Lock and Move Capture, as well as enabling you to run your own script/program when movement is detected. The URL is below. Any feedback would be most welcome.

I have given the updated verson rigorous testing and it seems to be working fine. In the begining it came up with errors when I tryed to select my webcam but after a couple of trys it worked. I actually use it to auto lock my computer if someone is near by my area and is working like a charm. will get back to you if i have any problems but I doubt I will :D
EDIT: I have found a small problem - you said that if the program minimizes the close button will dissapear but I cannot see the button to begin with. also pressing Esc doesnt stop the program but clicking the red cross does

Hi,

Glad it's working now :D

The cancel button should appear when the lock countdown starts, although for some reason if you have configured "minimizeToTray=true" and the program restores from the tray when movement is detected, the button doesn't appear.

I have no idea why this is the case as it appears if you set minimizeToTray=false, it must be some weird thing where the screen doesn't get re-rendered correctly when restoring from the system tray. I've been going mad trying to figure out why this is the case but I still can't see anything wrong.

BTW - pressing ESC cancels the lock countdown, it doesn't stop the program.

New features

Postby wuul on Wed Dec 12, 2007 8:13 pm

In case anyone's interested, I've made a few changes, listed below:

1) Resizeable screen - you can now enlarge the image window & set the size you want

2) Option to set video source - someone emailed me with problems when he had 2 cameras connected - there's a new button which will allow you to select the camera to use

3) Option to use a JPEG file on a web server as the video source instead of your webcam (allows you to use the program remotely)

4) Option to play a sound when movement detected (a WAV file)

...and a few other minor UI enhancements/bug fixes. If you already have a previous version please back it up first in case I've introduced any bugs(!) - I still haven't got into the discipline of maintaining proper versioning (must do this at some point)
