Save bitmap instead of jpeg

Postby cardocpdx on Sun Aug 23, 2009 5:36 pm

I have MoveAction running on a dedicated machine. it is a old slow machine. It does however have a fair sized hard drive.

I'd like to get the maximum "frame rate". I also notice considerable "artifacts" in the saved images.

I'd like to be able to save images at the camera native resolution in an uncompressed format. If I had a clue about Delphi I'd look at the souce and see if I could change the image format.

Is it possible to get a version of MoveAction that would save uncompressed images?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

This was pretty straightforward to implement so I've added it to the latest version 2.63, at http://wuul.host22.com/moveaction/readme.html As well as the setting "saveJpegOnMovement", there is now a new setting "saveBitmapOnMovement", if you set this to true it will save the original BMP file as well as/instead of the JPG. The BMP files will also be emailed/FTP'd, but only if the program is only set up to save BMP files, not both (i.e. if the JPG files are *not* saved) - this is because I originally wrote the FTP/Email code to look for one file type and I don't have enough free time at present to support both types - and I guess you would only use one or the other anyway.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a ton. I just installed it. I'll report back with the "frame rate my old P3 500 can support. With Jpeg compression I was at about 3 fps with a 1 to 1.5 second skip every 6th or 8th frame.

The changes work as advertised. I can get a fairly reliable 5 "frames" a second with only a few dropped "frames". Unlike the jpeg format when it does skip it always is less than a second between any successive frames.

>>> OFF TOPIC <<<

Now my next challenge is memory leaks. I run this machine headless with TeamViewer to access it. Apparently TeamViewer must have memory leaks as every 4 or 5 days Win2K pops up with a virtual memory error and shuts down TeamViewer. I have to leave my desk and walk all the way to the garage to manually reset the machine. I guess it is time to dust off VNC.

Thanks again for the excellent and rapid code changes!
